Common Signs of Illness/Injury in Pets

If your pet is showing signs of illness or injury, we recommend bringing them to us for an examination. Animals tend to be conditioned to hide signs of weakness, so the clues that something may be wrong could be easy to overlook. The following are some signs of the most common signs of illness and injury that are seen in pets:

  • Physical weakness
  • Refusing to eat
  • Moving slowly/stumbling
  • Seizures
  • Excessive panting/difficulty breathing
  • Severe diarrhea or vomiting
  • Excessive licking
  • Biting at their skin
  • Visible injury or trauma

When you bring your pet to us, we can thoroughly assess them from nose to tail to determine what the problem is. Depending on your pet’s symptoms, we may need to use our advanced diagnostic tools (X-rays, lab testing, etc.) to make a more accurate diagnosis. Once we’ve discovered the cause of the condition, we can recommend the proper course of treatment.

Pet Hospitalization

If we determine that your pet needs to be hospitalized overnight, you don’t have to worry about sending them to an unknown location. Our facility is equipped to provide our seriously injured and ill patients with overnight nursing care provided by our trained nursing staff most nights on an as-needed basis.

Taking care of sick and injured pets is a vital part of the work we do. If your pet has been injured, or if they’re displaying signs of illness, please bring them to us to receive the medical care that they need. If you have any questions about our pet hospitalization services at Arcata Animal Hospital, feel free to give us a call at 707-822-2402.
